1. Think of the table as a whole including food and decorations.
2. Choose a color scheme for linen, china and flowers.
3. The color scheme should complement colors of the food served.
4. Natural beeswax or white candles are preferred during the day. At night, black candles focus attention on the flickering flames.
5. Use silver candlesticks or:
- Eggcups decorated with raffia and moss. Choose ivy for a more formal table.
- Scooped out raw artichoke hearts.
- Votive candles at each place setting in glass containers wrapped with leaves and tied with raffia.
6. For fun table settings find reproductions of silverware from famous restaurants, hotels or ships.
7. Rolled crisp white napkins can be tied with ivy, or tuck a sprig of herbs or a posy into the folds.
8. Magnolia leaves are wonderful for name card holders
9. A basket overflowing with fruit or vegetables is a delightful alternative to flowers.
10. Have fun and enjoy the company of your tablemates.
